At Little Peques Studio, we love transforming sensory play into unforgettable keepsakes. These ideas use washable tempera paint and the natural shape of children’s hands and feet to create frightfully fun characters.
1. X-Ray Skeleton Hand
Materials: Black cardstock, white tempera paint, cotton swabs (Q-tips), school glue, and a paintbrush.
Step-by-step:
- Stamp the child’s hand and wrist with white paint onto the black cardstock.
- Glue a cotton swab down the center of the palm and along each finger to simulate the bones.
- Let it dry completely to achieve an X-ray effect.
2. Flying Witch
Materials: White paper, green and orange tempera paint, black markers (fine and thick tip), black and yellow cardstock or paint.
Step-by-step:
- Stamp the green-painted hand with fingers pointing downward to create the witch’s face and dress.
- Paint or draw orange hair cascading down the sides.
- Add the pointed hat on top.
- Use a marker to draw the broomstick across the background, the facial features, and stars around it.
3. Footprint Ghosts
Materials: Black cardstock, white paint, and a black permanent marker.
Step-by-step:
- Paint the sole of the child’s foot with white paint and stamp it onto the black cardstock.
- Once the paint is dry, use the black marker to draw the eyes and an open mouth on the heel area.
- Optional: Draw a white outer border to make the ghosts pop.
4. Spider in its Web
Materials: Cardstock, black paint, white pencil/crayons, googly eyes, and glue.
Step-by-step:
- Draw a spiderweb in the corner of the cardstock.
- Paint both hands black (leaving the thumbs unpainted) and stamp them overlapping at the palm to form the 8 legs.
- Glue the googly eyes in the center of the spider and draw a smile.
5. Funny Monster
Materials: Light blue paper or cardstock, green tempera paint, black marker, googly eyes or white paint.
Step-by-step:
- Stamp a green hand facing upward on the paper.
- Glue several googly eyes onto the fingertips.
- Draw a big mouth with sharp teeth across the palm of the hand.
6. Frankensfoot (Frankenstein Footprint)
Materials: White paper, light green and black paint, googly eyes, and a black marker.
Step-by-step:
- Stamp the sole of the foot using light green tempera paint.
- Paint the toe area black to create the hair.
- Glue googly eyes onto the heel area, and draw the scars, mouth, and side bolts with a marker.
7. Outlined Mummies
Materials: Black cardstock, white paint, googly eyes, and a black marker.
Step-by-step:
- Stamp the footprint with white paint onto black cardstock.
- Glue two large googly eyes near the top.
- Use the black marker to draw diagonal zigzag lines across the entire footprint, mimicking mummy bandages.
