Are you planning a trip to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta with your little ones and don’t know where to start? I completely get it! As a mom and early childhood educator, I know that visiting such a massive place can be a magical experience… or a challenge if you don’t go in with a plan.

That is why during our recent East Coast road trip across the US, we visited the Georgia Aquarium with my daughter Leilah (2 years old). Honestly, we absolutely loved it! Watching Leilah’s face fill with wonder at the vastness of the ocean was truly priceless.
To ensure your visit is a complete success, I’m sharing my best tips, our real-life experience, and the simple hacks that helped us enjoy a stress-free day.
1. Plan Your Entry: Timing Is Everything with Toddlers
The Atlanta Aquarium is one of the largest in the world, which means it can get very crowded. If you’re visiting with babies or toddlers, my golden rule is: buy your tickets online in advance and book the very first morning slot. I chose 9:00 AM, and by 8:50 AM we were already at the doors. It was the best decision ever!
Fewer crowds: First thing in the morning, the venue is much quieter, allowing kids to walk at their own pace without getting lost in the crowd.
Respect nap times: Arriving early lets you complete the entire tour and leave right in time for lunch and an afternoon nap.
💡Pro Tip: Make sure to reserve your seats for the dolphin and sea lion shows early! They are included for free with your admission ticket, and they are absolutely wonderful.
💡 Mobility & Logistics Note:
During our visit (which coincided with major city events like the 2026 World Cup), taking public transportation from our Airbnb was a lifesaver to avoid Atlanta’s heavy city traffic. If you prefer to drive, keep in mind that on-site parking costs $30 USD, which you can conveniently add when purchasing your tickets online.
2. Must-See Exhibits: Our Top Favorites
Although the entire aquarium is spectacular and we walked through it several times, there were two stops that completely stole our hearts and captivated Leilah’s attention:
🦈 Sharks! Predators of the deep
This is the crown jewel for marine life lovers. Standing in front of the massive viewing window and walking through the underwater tunnel makes you feel literally submerged in the ocean. Watching different shark species swim so close by is a fascinating, high-energy visual experience for kids. We sat there for a long time, completely mesmerized.
🐧 Cold Water Quest
This is home to the belugas and penguins. Kids love watching how fast the penguins dive underwater and marveling at the impressive size of the beluga whales.

Use these displays to talk about animal names, colors, and textures! It’s an incredible opportunity to build your toddler’s vocabulary naturally while having fun.
3. Mom Logistics: Strollers, Snacks, and Rest Breaks
To keep the day flowing smoothly without meltdowns or overtired toddlers, keep these practical details in mind:
Stroller or Baby Carrier?
The aquarium is fully accessible for strollers. However, in high-traffic areas and during shows, you’ll be asked to park your stroller outside. If you have a younger baby, a baby carrier is a fantastic alternative.
Snacks and Water
Reusable water bottles for kids are allowed inside. Keeping them hydrated and having small snacks on hand will save you during waiting periods. There is also a café on-site if you need extra options. Lights and Sounds
Keep in mind that some exhibit rooms are quite dark with bright lights illuminating the tanks. If your toddler is sensitive to sensory stimuli, take it easy and take breaks in the central, open areas.
4. Is It Worth Taking Toddlers and Young Kids?
A thousand times yes! The sensory stimulation, the vibrant colors underwater, and the opportunity to learn about marine life make a trip to the Georgia Aquarium an unforgettable family memory. For us, it was a beautiful adventure that we will definitely repeat!
